Event description

This workshop is aimed at primary and secondary teachers and will provide you with practical examples of inclusive and adaptive practice to support your delivery back at school.  The workshop will also cover the free online resource tool that is available upon completion of the training.

TOP Sportsability can be utilised by schools to help engage young disabled people in Physical Education, school sport, and support their first step into the School Games.

The programme has three main aims:
  1. To provide physical activity and sport options for young people with high support needs
  2. To create a vehicle for the inclusion of disabled and non-disabled young people together
  3. To provide a basic introduction to a wide range of sports and activities in support of the School Games programme.

TOP Sportsability is a free online resource for schools and offers practical advice to teachers, learning support staff and other sports practitioners. It consists of video clips and downloadable content showing ideas and strategies around the inclusion of young disabled people in physical activity, it is divided into three sections:

  1. User manual - shows how to use the resource and establishes basic principles and models of inclusion
  2. Disability sport & adapted games - features the sports in the original TOP Sportsability plus some new activities
  3. Sports adaptations - consists of traditional 'mainstream' sports adapted for the widest possible range of abilities.

This is a countywide event as part of our work as Lead Inclusion School for the Youth Sport Trust.
