We are proud to announce our inaugural Sport, Health and Physical Education Conference. This promises to be a fantastic networking opportunity, with a chance for us all to unite and look forward to the exciting possibilities of the coming year. We want you to be part of it!
We have tried to create a programme that has something for everyone including our very special guest speaker, Ali Oliver MBE, Chief Executive Officer at the Youth Sport Trust. Ali played a central role in forming the national School Sport Partnership (SSP) network in her former role. She was also previously a PE teacher, Head of PE and Deputy Director of Sport at a university. In 2020 Ali was awarded an MBE for her services to sport.
Following the keynote, we have two fantastic workshops for PE Leads and Head teachers. The workshops are led by experts in their field and offer an insight into current best practice whilst providing an opportunity to check and challenge our current beliefs and pedagogy. The conference will also play host to a number of key partners who will be showcasing further opportunities to support your school through PE, school sport, health and physical activity interventions, strategies and programmes.
Ali Oliver MBE Keynote speaker
• COVID Recovery: The role of physical activity and helping the nation recover
• The wider role of physical activity in children’s development
• Insight into the Class of 2035 for the focus going forward
PE Workshop 1: Tackling Inequalities in Physical Activity
This workshop looks at tackling inequalities in physical activity across and within protected characteristic groups. It looks at understanding the enablers, barriers and opportunities for increasing physical activity across inequality groups and helps to reflect on considerations for action by practitioners. This will help practitioners to consider what strategies, adaptations and actions are needed when designing and delivering physical activity services and interventions locally.
PE Workshop 2: The importance of physical literacy in developing happier, healthier, more active citizens
Delivered by an ex-Head teacher and PE Lead, this workshop aims to explore how leads can create a positive and successful PE curriculum that develops the confidence, competence, motivation, knowledge and understanding of every child.
Head teacher Workshop 1: Using PE, school sport and physical activity to drive whole school improvement and impact
How do we make the most of PE, school sport and physical activity within our schools. Understanding how we can embed it at the heart of the school and drive school improvement, significantly contributing to whole school outcomes
Head teacher Workshop 2: Research informed Professional Development – Change habits, create a culture of improvement
Delivered by a current practising Headteacher in a Sheffield school, nationally recognised for its work on professional development. This workshop explores the research around professional development and why habit change is key to creating a long lasting school improvement.
