Rise in children being unable to swim

Before the coronavirus pandemic one in four children could not swim the statutory 25 metres when they left primary school, and this is feared to rise to 3 in 5 children by the 2025-26 academic year. 

More than one million children could leave primary school unable to swim 25 metres across the next five years recent figures have estimated. The impact of school closures across 2020 and 2021 have taken a huge toll on pupil's swimming ability, with children being in urgent need of swimming lessons to ensure children are set up to enjoy swimming safely for the rest of their lives.
