Using PE and Movement to Transform Wellbeing in Primary Schools

We’re highlighting a powerful new article from Physical Education Matters (Spring 2026) exploring how the RISE Up framework is transforming wellbeing, regulation and inclusion through movement and relationship‑centred practice.

The article shows how schools nationwide are using PE, play and physical activity as protective, regulating and connecting spaces for children — particularly those experiencing anxiety, dysregulation or disrupted routines. It includes:
- The RISE Up Wellbeing Formula blending movement, emotional regulation and relational safety
- Three case studies demonstrating improvements in confidence, attendance, readiness to learn and WEMWBS wellbeing scores
- Practical tools such as the School Wellbeing Scorecard to help schools reflect on their own provision
It’s a valuable read for any school wanting to strengthen inclusion, belonging and whole‑school wellbeing through movement.
