SHAPE Weekly Newsletter

8th September 2025

Welcome Back!

We hope you all had a fantastic summer break and are feeling refreshed and ready for the year ahead. The SHAPE Team is excited to be working with you all and looking forward to the year ahead.

We’d also like to start the term with a special celebration—huge congratulations to our very own India, who said “I do” over the weekend! Please join us in sending warm wishes to India and Callum for a joyful future together.

Don’t forget to check out the Events Calendar on our website. We’ve already added a few events—mainly football, which kicks off at the end of the month for Years 5 and 6. We’re currently waiting for confirmation from our secondary schools for the rest of the events. They’ll be available to book as soon as possible. We’ll keep you updated!

In other news, we’re excited to share updates on the Cross Country Race Series, a new Hockey Development Opportunity, and a Free Balance Bike Initiative.

Wildcats and Squad Girls are also back on Sundays, 10am-11am.  Copies of the posters are in the Club Opportunity section below for you to share with parents.

SAVE THE DATE - 23/10/2025 - DASN PE Conference (More details to follow)

Remember, if you have any news, achievements, or shout-outs that you would like us to share with our affiliated schools, please email l.caton@brookfieldcs.org.uk and we will include them in the newsletter.

Warm regards, SHAPE Learning Partnership Team

We are delighted to invite your school to take part in our New Primary Cross Country Race Series, held across four weekday evenings this autumn. It’s a brilliant opportunity for children to challenge themselves, represent their school and enjoy the spirit of competition in a safe, supportive environment.

The first race is on 24th September 2025, so please get sharing with parents NOW!

Hockey Development Opportunity for Primary Schools

We’re thrilled to announce that our joint application with Chesterfield Hockey Club has secured funding through the Sport England Movement Fund. Building on our successful pilot in 2024–25, we’re expanding hockey provision across local schools with a fully funded 6-week programme.

Schools will benefit from:

  • Access to equipment via a loan scheme
  • Ready-to-use session plans
  • 6-week delivery programme from a dedicated hockey coach using a graduated team-teach model (I teach - We Teach - You Teach)

This initiative aims to break down common barriers to hockey in primary schools—such as lack of equipment, teacher confidence, and safety concerns—and will link directly to upcoming festivals and competitions in the autumn and spring terms.

Initial funding is available for 14 schools. To express interest, please email: p.ryan@brookfieldcs.org.uk

Free Balance Bike Initiative for Schools

A fully funded programme that brings the benefits of cycling to your school

  • Develop physical literacy, balance and fitness
  • Teach vital life skills and road safety in EYFS and KS1
  • Build healthy habits and overall physical and mental wellbeing

What is Get Cycling in Schools?

Get Cycling in Schools is a fully funded programme created by The Bikeability Trust, the experts responsible for the Department for Transport’s Bikeability cycle training. This new, innovative programme equips primary-school teaching staff across England to deliver cycle skills to their pupils in PE lessons or during extra-curricular provision.

Staff training is free, takes just half a day at a local venue, and is available for up to two staff members per school.  There are only 14 places available, so please register your interest below as soon as possible.  Your school will also receive a fleet of six balance bikes and helmets to enable all pupils, regardless of whether they own a bike, to take part.

After completing the training, staff will be able to teach pupils to balance, glide and pedal using a combination of online e-learning, curriculum-aligned resources and practical lessons. The training empowers all participants to effectively teach basic cycling skills regardless of their level of experience and ability.
